Abstract

Brown coal fly ash is used more and more often in the construction industry because of its physical and chemical properties as well as economic and environmental aspects. The purpose of this study was to determine the prospects of using the modified (in magnetic activator Wapeco) fly ash from Pątnów Power Plant – as a main component of hydraulic road binding agent for soil stabilisation. In this paper the investigation on compressive strength of soil and binder mixtures with the use of brown coal fly ash is reported. The research was done on seven types of soil with variable uniformity coefficient as well as silt and clay fraction content. The soil was stabilised with the use of hydraulic road binding agents with low strength grade (3 MPa and 9 MPa). In both cases, the components of those binders were cement and activated fly ash. The obtained results proved the soil and binder mixtures very useful for road structures, especially in earth works.
