Experimental analysis of inelastic buckling of steel columns subjected to corrosion in the salt spray chamber

Aniela Glinicka , Magdalena Kruk

Abstract

Experimental investigation of inelastic buckling of previously corroded steel bars is described. The process of the corrosion was conducted in the salt spray chamber during 16 days. Buckling tests on slender bars were conducted in testing machine Instron 3382. Reduction of critical force of the corroded bars in comparison to critical force for non-corroded bars ranged from 2.8% to 28.4% and was found to increase for decreasing wall thickness of specimens. Results of critical load tests are presented for corroded and non-corroded specimens.
