Abstract

The article presents a study carried out in the field of drivers' reaction on variable message signs. For the purpose of the experiment a measuring station has been constructed consisting of a variable message sign and a device equipped with sensors containing a vehicle seat, steering wheel and pedals. The time to start the reaction, the reaction time and the response correctness to the displayed information has been checked. In most cases the VMS has been pseudorandomly damaged. Numerical results of the study has been analyzed statistically, and the results of this analysis are an important part of the article. It has been carried out in the form of statistical tests and descriptive statistics and allowed to determine the relationship between the values of the average examined times, also in the context of the accuracy of the reaction and the sign type. No reaction has been usually noted in case of failure of one or three panels. Observations important from a practical point of view have been articulated in the conclusions.
