Calculation of crossing ability of 14-axles lorries over bridges designed according to various standards

Mieczysław Rybak , Marian Skawiński

Abstract

The study addresses problems of carrying capacity and crossing ability of bridges on the basis of different load models and classes. It is assumed however that the characteristic resistance of bridges follows design requirements. In this situation comparison of sole effects due to heavy vehicle loading with standard loading for the appropriate loading class in chosen standard creates a sufficient criterion for determining a real loading class in calibration system proposed in a used standard. The real class factor a is a relation of the “safe” class to the designed in particular case.
