Bridge construction monitoring during assembling

Piotr Olaszek , Marek Łagoda

Abstract

Structure monitoring activities undertaken during construction of Warsaw Siekierkowski Bridge are presented in the paper. An innovative assembling technology was applied. Control and warning measurements were executed to ensure a positive result of the assembly. Control functions of the monitoring process were assured with two types of activities. The first one concerned on preventive inspection of bearing reactions on temporary supports. It was realized by pressure inspection of servomotor, the bridge girders were lied on it during launching across the river. The second activity concerned geodesic observation of displacements of temporary supports. It was done with the use of Total Station system. The warning functions of the monitoring process were also provided by two kinds of actions. The state of stress measurements in the steel girders were performed with a use of photoelastic coating method. The measurements were focused on monitoring of the state of stress in girders during all phases of bridge assembling (the minor phases were welding of steel girders, concrete deck lying and bridge launching on the temporary supports). Such measurements were carried on during the load testing as well. The investigation of I-beam steel girder web deformation was also performed. It was done using inductive sensors supported by special stands on both sides of the girder web. The testing methods, test results and conclusions are presented in the paper.
