Farewell to Two Distinguished Scholars

2025-11-14

With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to the Professors who passed away last week and who had collaborated with our journal for many years.

Professor Stanisław Gaca, D.Sc., Ph.D., Eng., from Cracow University of Technology, was an outstanding specialist, researcher, and mentor to many generations of civil engineers. He served for many years as Head of the Department of Highway Engineering and Traffic Engineering at the Institute of Highway Engineering, Railway Engineering and Transport, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Cracow University of Technology. He was a widely respected international authority in the fields of transportation and highway engineering as well as road safety. For many years, he kindly supported our journal with his expertise and experience as a reviewer of scientific articles.

Professor Andrzej Marek Brandt was a retired researcher of the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN). From 1973 to 2000 he headed the Deformation Fields Laboratory at IPPT PAN, and from 1999 to 2002 he served as Chair of its Scientific Council. Since the establishment of our journal, he had been a member of the Editorial Board. He specialized in the mechanics of composites with a brittle matrix and in the optimization of their properties, particularly fibre-reinforced concrete. As an eminent expert, he authored numerous articles as well as reviews for “Roads and Bridges – Drogi i Mosty”. It should be emphasized that the Editorial Office owes Professor Brandt many years of invaluable substantive and formal support.

The passing of these two distinguished scholars is a profound loss to us. We extend our deepest condolences to their Families and Loved Ones.
