Evaluation of the maximum axial force on a cylindrical shell structure in terms of stability and strength using fuzzy quantities of chosen geometric parameters

Valeriy Baranenko , Denys Volchok

Abstract

The paper deals with the application of the fuzzy sets theory for determining the maximum axial load of a pin-supported smooth cylindrical shell surface. It takes into account the stability and strength criteria, using fuzzy shell radius and plate thickness data. The formulated optimisation problems relate to fuzzy chance-constrained programming (CCP) models. A Monte-Carlo simulation modelling algorithm is proposed. Computational experiments were performed as part of the study. The proposed method can be used for designing and assessing the load-bearing capacity of structures such as bridges and railroads when faced with incomplete or time-varying input data.
