Abstract

The paper presents description of the process of construction of fatigue cracking models of asphalt layers in the new American mechanistic - empirical method of pavement design AASHTO 2004. The following were described: models adopted for calibration, problem of different behavior of asphalt layers in stress and strain controlled conditions of loading, used measures of fatigue cracking, calibration based on testing on trial sections of LTPP, simulation analysis and models of fatigue cracking “bottom - up” and “top - down” adopted for design. The importance of field verification of fatigue models was emphasized.
